Mozart effect
Cultura e Società usic has proved that it affects our intellect, our mood, and
our brain development. The following question is: which
Mmusic allows these benefits? Certainly we speak about few
pieces of classical music (not only Mozart) that follow a specific
rhythm, lightness, combination of chords, a specific climax, har-
mony and time. This relaxing effect has been grouped and named
under Mozart, the first musician who developed inconsciously this
technique.
However the Mozart Effect has recently been discovered. Every-
thing started when the french Dr. Alfred A. Tomatis, after his study
of mozart music, published in 1991 his research called "Pourqui
Mozart?” (Why Mozart?). In this book he shows the medical ben-
efit which could be referred to specific ear healing frequencies and
brain growth.
The evaluation of pieces to be classified as “content of Mozart Ef-
fect” is a long process made by doctors in labs where they calculate
di Michelangelo Rosati all the frequencies to see if they fit it.
From an experiment published on the english magazine “Nature”,
a group of teens have had a temporary increase of IQ following
these steps: while listening verbal relaxation instruction and then
silence. The study was a complete success.
After the first study of the mozart effect, Campbell wrote a fol-
low-up book, The Mozart Effect For Children, and created related
products. It shows the use of specific classical music to reduce stress,
depression, or anxiety; induce relaxation or sleep; activate the
body; and improve memory or awareness. Innovative and experi-
mental uses of specific classical music and sound can improve lis-
tening disorders, dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, autism, and
other mental and physical disorders and diseases. As an example
the piano sonata K. 448 has been cited in these studies. In 2010
after an evaluation of 39 studies, mozart effect was finally proved
scientifically.
In journalism camp, Alex Ross, a column in music history, has writ-
ten on New York Times, that Mozart dethroned Beethoven as the
best composer and musician ever born.
Some similar effect has linked and connected to other composers
for example the greek composer Yanni, entitled a track
"Acroyali/Standing In Motion”. It was determined to have the
"Mozart effect", by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine
because it was similar to Mozart's K 448 in tempo, structure,
melodic and harmonic consonance and predictability.
